Slovenia is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. It has a population of around 2 million and is about the size of Wales so there is a feeling of space and lots of unspoilt countryside to explore. It is the second most wooded country in Europe after Finland, which makes it lush and green in spring and summer and golden in the autumn. The weather is similar to northern Italy and is stable. It has a small coast line in the bottom left corner and much of the country is protected by national parks. The people are lovely; very friendly and welcoming. Many of them speak English or German/Italian so getting around is easy.
Slovenia, and the JULIAN ALPS in particualar, is a fantastic centre for activity holidays with tons of WATER SPORTS, out door activites and adventures to be had. Start with white water rafting, kayaking, canyoning, hiking, hydrospeeding (body surfing down white water rapids), mountain biking, caving, climbing, paragliding and end up with WINE TASTING and dining in beautiful surrounds. In the winter there is a choice of SKIING locations for all abilities
The HOUSE is in the far west of the country in the Soca Valley, which runs through the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park. This is on the Italian boarder, which explains the italian influence on food in the area. Running the length of the Soca valley is the Soca river, from its source in the heart of the Triglav National Park to the Medeterrenian. The water in the Soca river is from melted snow and is a stunning blue colour because of the minerals it picks up at its source.
All-in-all a beautiful area in a beautiful country to visit, and that is before you look at all the things you can do when you are there!
