There is also hiking, mountain biking and quad bike safaris where you can go up into the National Park and visit remote houses where you are served locally made cheese, ham and some heart warming schnapps. Two great easy walks nearby are Tolminska Gorge and Kobarid Slap (waterfall). I have done the first of this and it truely is spectacular.
The area is an international centre for paragliding and hang gliding and I believe world championships have been held there. Certainly, on any sunny day you can count many brightly coloured kites flying high with little ants dangling below.
Rock climbing and caving is also plentiful, although not something I have tried yet.
There is a lot of history in the area and a great museum in Kobarid. Much of the history is related to what happened in the area during the World Wars
Another great thing to do is to put your car on the train in Most na Soca and go through the mountains. This takes you near to Vogel where you can ride up on a 20 person cable car up to the top of the mountain. Vogel is a major ski centre in the winter.
If you wish to travel further afield you can get to Venice in about 2 hours and the coast is about 1.5 hours drive
